How do you start running?
As my running partner and I were sweating balls this morning, we were pondering how we went from walking to running. It wasn’t that long ago that we were so impressed with our bad selves that we could walk around the 2 mile loop two times! Wow, we are going to be so skinny!
I’ve never actually liked running, but have always known it to be the fastest way to lose weight for me.
Build Endurance: For us, the walking helped build our leg muscles and endurance. We were getting to be crazy walkers. After walking 12 miles a pop, there’s really no where else to go but to start running!
Run Short Spurts: Start by playing games with yourself. For example, “I’m going to run to that tree”. Keep making your goal farther and farther and before you know it you are running.
Get Tools: There are lots of fun gadgets to track time, miles, distance, calories etc. These are great for motivation. I am a fan of Nike Plus shoes with my iPod Nano. Not everyone likes Nike running shoes and I think they are alright but I love NikePlus and didn’t want to deal with rigging a different type of shoe.
Running is mental. You have to look forward to the next tree and not think or feel the pain. You will be rewarded in the end.
