Keep on Truckin’
Motivation is a tough one. Believe it or not, I get motivated and partly guilted (Catholics understand) into working out by my running partners. No one always feels like running, in fact, I don’t want to run more often than I do want to run.
Yesterday, I was truly inspired to keep up the running from two unsuspecting friends. I was lunching with one friend who was dying to tell me she read my blog and has started running. To understand the full scope of this revelation, you have to know a little bit of her background. She is a meat lover. I have never met a woman who likes meat of any kind, and chicken being the least, as much as this woman! Meat, cheese and french fries were her lunch faves. She claims I gave her a hard time about her diet, I don’t recall such nagging. Except for her salt intake; she was a little heavy handed with the salt shaker. I know I nagged her about salting everything before tasting it, but I nag out of pure love! She has a goal of running a half marathon in her 60th year and I hope to run it with her.
Then in the evening, I was IM’d by an old high school friend who just wanted to tell me she was inspired by my excessive facebook postings to start running. I know once she finds a running partner, she will be inspired like I am by my partners.
It’s small acts of kindness like these that really make my world go around. When you want to say something nice to someone, do it. It goes a long way.
ps: My lunching friend’s lunch: lentil soup and cheese panini-a vegetarian in the making perhaps?
