Me and My Treadmill

I became one with my treadmill today. It’s a rare occurrence, but taking a day off made me long for any kind of run I could get. I committed to completing and being happy with 30 minutes. With New Year’s resolutions still fresh, the gym was crowded but I found a treadmill next to a skinny young girl who, unbeknown to her, would be my competition.

I had my playlist ready and began the machine at a higher speed than usual. I focused on one leaf in a tree and ran as fast as I could without falling off the treadmill.

  • I thought about how fast and strong I am.
  • I thought about how none of the other runners know how fast I’m going; I’m shattering all personal records!
  • I thought about nothing. Just me getting a run on.

30 minutes of focusing on your body instead of your worries creates space for change.
