I’m Sorry, I Have to Unfriend You

Have you ever unfriended someone on Facebook? Until I learned How to Hide Farmville, I thought about unfriending a lot of people.

I recently had to unfriend a person who I thought could be a friend. Our kids were in the same class, which for me was a new school. We are also neighbors and in a similar line of work. So I thought possibly a business contact, possibly a new friend.

She accepted my request and when I went to look at her site, I could only see the info page. Being new to Facebook, I didn’t realize she had put me on a privacy setting in which I couldn’t see or write on her wall. She had a generic profile picture and generic information. I could only contact her by message or email.

I was naive enough to bring her Facebook “problem” to her attention and I wish I could remember what her response was to me but I don’t. I kept her for about a year even after realizing how she had snubbed me. What a loss for her! I am a fun Facebook friend!

I have unfriended her and she probably doesn’t even realize it or care. Why would someone accept a friend request without any intention of engaging with them? Isn’t that the point of social?

Do you have any unfriending stories?
